Morrisville, PA Another Great Event for music, art, camping, and more!

On Saturday June 26th the Gates at Snipes Farm in Morrisville, PA open
early at 11:00am. “THE MIXXER CUP” quoit tournament begins at 11:30am,
with all the proceeds benefiting the T.A.S.K. Then at 12:01pm the music
starts, with non-stop music on two stages ranging from rock, funk,
reggae, folk, blues, bluegrass, jam indie, and more. The MIXXTAPE,
Chris Harford & the Band of Changes, Crucial, Groove Train Riders,
Justin Pope band, The Low Down, Skip’s Museum, Blackflower, The Wallace
Brothers Band, and Ghost in the Woods play all day into the night.
There will also be great food and vendors selling their crafts and
arts. Plus don’t forget to bring a tent to camp under the stars too!

The festivities revolve around the spring arrival of the American Shad , the largest fish in the herring family. The Shad Fest tradition was born as spring blossomed, the shad made their way upriver, and the locals strolled through town enjoying the arts and crafts of their friends and neighbors.

Always in the mood for a celebration, Lambertville residents hosted the first Shad Fest in 1981 to highlight the local art scene. One of the most important considerations people have, in trying to decide where to move, is the quality of education provided by the school district.

Anyone who knows me, knows how passionate I am about education. In fact, having grown up in Trenton, New Jersey, I serve on the board of the Trenton Public Education Foundation. Our organizations mission is to broker, foster and leverage resources that enhance and promote educational opportunities for the students in the Trenton School District.

We are extremely fortunate, in the general Bucks County area, to have a variety of very strong, public school districts. Whether considering Pennsbury, Council Rock, Central Bucks, or any of the many, award wining districts, prospective buyers always want to know my thoughts about which district is, “best”.

I actually have a school district comparison link on my main website, at MartinMillner.com. There are actually a number of websites that offer a variety of ways of comparing school districts.

One of the best local resources, is the report done every year, by the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Inquirer’s 13th annual report card on area schools, was in yesterday’s (April 11th, 2010) edition.

The report is an extremely comprehensive analysis of all the local public school districts, in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and incldues information on private schools, as well.

There is a very interesting story on the new focus on sciences that is taking place in our various districts.

There is actually a breakdown of how schools are doing with science tests, in 4th grade.

There is a comparison on spending, salaries academics and other factors.

You will find a test score comparison for 8th and 11th grade science, as well.

There are other test score comparisons, as well.

The report breaks down what is offered at high schools throughout the region.

You will also find a breakdown of the ususal math and reading test scores at various grade levels, as well.

Overall, this is one of the best and most comprehensive school reports provided locally, and I highly recommend it if you are looking at comparing school districts.

Veterans monuement fundraiser, Lower Makefield Township, Bucks County, Pa.

Veterans Park, Lower Makefield Township, Bucks County, Pa.

On December 19th, 2007, a committee was formed to work to bring a veterans monumement to Lower Makefield Township.

The monument would remember those with ties to our Township, that died in the name of freedom and liberty, and also serve as a place to

pay tribute to those who served.

On October 15th, 2008, the Lower Makefield Board of Supervisors unanimously approved designating the site of the farmer’s market as a veterans monument.

On November 9th, what was Pocket Park, was officially renamed, “Veterans Square”.

The mission for monument square, is to create a timeless monument to honor veterans while making Veterans Square an attractive park where residents can gather

with family, friends and neighbors, for both public and informal events. It is the hope of those involved with Veterans Square, that they can create an opportunity to

educate the children of our community about the sacrifices made by servicemen and women in a fun and interactive way.

On Friday, April 13th, Philies general manager, Ruben Amaro, Jr, who is a resident of Lower Makefield Township and the Phillile Phantic will appear at a fundraiser for the veterans monument, in

Lower Makefield Township.

The event will take place between 6:00 & 8:00 PM at the Yardley Inn on Afton Avenue, in Yardley Boro.

Amaro is scheduled to appear from 6:30 to 7:00, while the Phanatic will appear from about 7:00 to 8:00.

Yardley Inn chef Eben Copple will be offering Philly favorites like cheesesteaks, pork sandwhiches, sausage, pasta and more.

There will be a silent auction, basket raffles, giveaways and music.

This is a kickoff for the Veterans committee’s stepping stone campaign.

Today was the first ever, first Saturday, for Newtown Boro, and Newtown Township.

Folks walked State Street and Sycamore Streets, in Newtown, which offerred musicians, face painting, food and good cheer, as we enjoyed a glorious 75 degree spring day in Newtown. Check out the pictures, which were provided by local photrapher Jill Christine Martin.

Both Newtown Boro, and Newtown Township, plan to continue this first Saturday event, on the first Saturday of every month. It was great to see so many people, out enjoying such a beautiful day. Hopefully the business community in Newtown, found the event, productive.

Its golf season, in Bucks County

After a couple days of teaming rain, it is absolutely beautiful in Bucks County, Pa. right now. The forecast for the Easter holiday weekend, is fabulous, with temperatures supposed to be in the 80’s, by the end of the week.

Time to think about golf again.

Today, I will provide a list, of a variety of public golf courses, in and around, Bucks County.

Please note that the 15th hole at Makefield Highlands, was selected in the Philadelphia Inquirer’s list of 18 dream holes, from all golf courses in the area. The 14th, at the Highlands, is a 423 yard, par 4, that has a banked, dogleg fariway, and an approach over water.

Whatever your preference for outdoor activities may be, I hope that in you are in the Yardley, Newtown area this weekend, you have a chance to enjoy some very much needed, spring weather.
